ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Many Christians had in the past used the Bible to justify the dehumanization of Africa in the form of the cross-Atlantic slave traffic and colonization. The principle of Apartheid and racial discrimination has been championed and defended using the Bible. Till today, many Bible-believing Christians still believe that the problems of present day Africa are traceable to divine malediction. This series of lectures investigates the role of Africa and Africans (Blacks) in biblical history and in the formative period of the biblical tradition. We shall examine the ways in which Africa and Africans (Blacks) have been portrayed at different stages in the evolution of biblical narrative. Particular attention is paid to the negative view of Africa that has predominated popular Western biblical scholarship and the argument is made for an Afrocentric hermeneutic as a key to unlocking the Black heritage in the Bible and enabling Black people everywhere hear the Word of God in the Bible as the Good News that it is and not the bad news that it has sometimes been made to be. In the end we hope to know the Truth, and the Truth will empower us and make us free.

The Lord says this:
"Israel, you are no different to me than the people of Cush.
I brought Israel out of the land of Egypt.
I also brought the Philistines from Crete
and the Arameans from Kir. (Amos 9:7)
God shows no partiality,
but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right
is acceptable to him. (Acts 10:34-35).
